Women's Design Groups

Manchester & Islington

Women’s Design Groups are groups of women who are interested in the design of their local areas and want to get involved in working for improvements to buildings, parks, streets and transport. They meet on a regular basis to learn about planning and design issues, and to make recommendations about their local neighbourhoods.

WDS have established two groups, one in Manchester and one in Islington.

If you would like to join one of the groups or want more information please email hberry@wds.org.uk.

New: London Groups in 12 Boroughs

London Councils is funding Women’s Design Service to set up 12 Women’s Design Groups in London over a 3 year period.  Women’s Design Groups perform for Gender what Access Groups delivered for Disability. WDGs include both women who are professionally involved in planning and the built environment, and women from the community who have an interest in becoming more knowledgeable and engaged with issues affecting their neighbourhoods. We currently have two pilot groups; one in Islington and one in Manchester and both groups have held a number of events and have liaised on a variety of issues with planners and regeneration bodies. Georgia Wrighton has been employed as our Community Development Worker for the project and during the first year will be setting up groups in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield , Redbridge and Westminster

If you would be interested in participating in one of the Groups, or would like to be kept informed, please do get in touch with Georgia who will be very pleased to hear from you by emailing gwrighton@wds.org.uk
